Weather Updates & Emergency Closure Procedures

Dear RCS Families,

With winter approaching, we would like to remind families about the protocols that have been established for school closings, delays, and early dismissals, as well as the cancellation of extra-curricular activities.

In the event that weather impacts the school day in any way, we use several information vehicles to communicate with parents and community members.

When and How We Will Communicate

For inclement conditions that take place overnight and continue in the early morning hours.

  • By 5:00 a.m., we will send a notification through ParentSquare of the decision of a delay or closure. (See below about ParentSquare)

  • The announcement will also be posted on the District website, pushed through Stopfinder, posted on our social media channels (Facebook & Instagram), and shared with local media outlets: Channel 6, Spectrum News 1, Channel 10, Fox 23, WFLY (92.3 FM), WGNA (107.7 FM), WGY (810 AM), WYJB (B95.5), and WRVE (99.5 FM) *NOTE: our announcement will not be aired by WNYT(Channel 13)

Two-Hour Delays

If we announce a two-hour delay, please note that weather conditions will continue to be monitored.

  • If additional action is needed—such as shifting from a delay to a closure—a final decision will be communicated no later than 6:30 a.m. through all of our listed notifications.

  • If no communication is received by 6:30 a.m., school will start as scheduled:
    • Middle and High School Start Time: 9:30 a.m. Parent drop-off begins at 9:25 a.m.
    • Elementary Start Time: 11:00 a.m. Parent drop-off begins at 10:55 a.m.

  • If there is a two-hour delay, students will receive breakfast and lunch.

  • No AM CTE

  • The After School Activities Program (A.S.A.P. Inc.) will not operate during two-hour delays, an early dismissal, or cancellation of after-school activities.

Early Dismissal and Canceling After-School Activities

When declining weather conditions happen during the school day, an early dismissal is often the most difficult decision to make. Our goal is always the safety of our students and staff. We will monitor conditions, work with our local highway departments, transportation, and notify through all of our listed notification channels if an early dismissal or cancellation of after-school activities is necessary. Those who use Transportation, we encourage parents and guardians to use Stopfinder.

  • If an early dismissal is declared, Elementary Students must have someone to meet them at the bus.

  • The After School Activities Program (A.S.A.P. Inc.) will not operate during two-hour delays, an early dismissal, or cancellation of after-school activities.

  • Those who use Transportation, we encourage parents and guardians to use Stopfinder. This is your direct line to our Transportation department. Real-time notifications and two-way communication. Please contact our Transportation Department to get started or for assistance. transportation@rcscsd.org

ParentSquare Alerts

ParentSquare is our primary communication platform across our District. This is a good time to log in and make sure your phone number and email are up to date. ParentSquare contact information is the information in SchoolTool, our district's student information system. Those designated to have access to receiving educational mail: Parents, Legal Guardians, and or those designated by a child’s guardian have access to education information, such as report cards may receive ParentSquare Alerts.

We will be conducting a test of our alert system on Thursday, December 11, at 12 p.m. If you do not receive an alert or need assistance with updating your contact information, please contact Diane Palazzo, District Registrar, registration@rcscsd.org or 518-756-5200 ext. 6008.
