Today is Veterans Day, and we want to take a moment to recognize and thank all who have served in our nation’s armed forces.
Across our schools, students have been learning about the significance of Veterans Day and finding meaningful ways to honor those who have served. From classroom lessons and art projects to assemblies, letters, and heartfelt conversations, our school community has come together to show appreciation for our veterans, both past and present. Here is a look at those lessons at RCS.

Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary |
Second-grade students and the PTO at Pieter B. Elementary came together this fall to host a special fundraiser that supports ill and injured veterans and their families, caregivers, and survivors. In return for funds raised, the program empowers communities to create inspiring displays of American flags in honor of local veterans.
Together, the group raised an incredible $1,180 to help support ill and injured veterans through DAV programs.
On Thursday, November 6, the second grade welcomed and hosted local veterans who are PBC parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents to learn about their experiences in the military and what it truly means to be a veteran. Following their discussions, students and veterans joined together outside to plant flags, each one symbolizing gratitude, remembrance, and respect for those who have served.
The Pieter B. 2nd Grade would like to thank all who donated to the DAV Field of Flags. Through this meaningful project, our students learned the importance of service, community, and giving back.

On Friday, November 7, the entire A.W. Becker community came together for a heartfelt assembly in honor of Veterans Day. Students and staff gathered to celebrate and learn about the importance of this special day.
The program was led by the 5th Grade Student Council, who shared stories and reflections that helped everyone understand the true meaning of Veterans Day. The 5th Grade Chorus led the audience with “This Land Is Your Land” and “America the Beautiful.”
The assembly also featured a warm welcome for the local color guard, who presented the colors with pride and precision. One of the most meaningful moments came as the building honored family members who have served, parents, grandparents, spouses, brothers, and uncles in a touching Veterans Day procession.
A.W. Becker would like to thank the PTA, 5th Grade Student Council, Ms. Mapes, and Ms. McClave for their support in making this assembly happen.

The RCS Middle School proudly participated in the Field of Flags fundraiser, raising $2,970 to support the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Their efforts placed their school among the Top 10 contributors nationwide. The money raised will go towards the initiative that will help veterans lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity.
In Civic classes leading up to Veterans Day, students discussed various global conflicts in which the U.S. military has served. These conversations gave students a deeper appreciation for the challenges and sacrifices faced by those in uniform throughout history.
On Thursday, November 6, students who had earned positive referrals took part in a special act of service. Together, they helped lay out flags beside the main campus sign as a moving tribute to the men and women who have served our country.
RCS Middle School would like to thank the community for its support and donations to this cause.

RCS High School students set their intentions to gratitude by creating thank you and recognition videos to honor the special people in their lives. From older brothers and sisters to uncles, cousins, and grandparents, students took time to acknowledge their loved ones’ commitment and sacrifice in service to our country.
In addition, students were encouraged to bring in photos of family members who have served. These images were displayed digitally in the high school lobby, creating a moving tribute that reminded everyone of the personal connections our community shares with those who have worn the uniform.
