RCS Student-Athletes Wrap Up Fall 2024 Sports Season

The Fall Season has come to a close, and with 295 student-athletes participating in 8 different Fall sports, our RCS athletes always kept it exciting and gave it their all from practice to competition and beyond.

“I am truly blown away by the talent, hard work, and sportsmanship of our student-athletes and coaches,” said the Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Health & Wellness, Ms. Murphy. "Our student-athletes and coaches did not disappoint. I can’t wait to see how they grow and thrive next!” 

A huge thank you goes to the coaches, parents, caregivers, staff, chaperones, transportation team, and most notably, our student-athletes for an invigorating season! Each of you plays an important role in supporting our athletic program, and it is greatly appreciated. 

Congratulations to all of our student-athletes and coaches on a successful fall season! They left everything on the field, court, and pool, representing RCS with pride and honor. 

Here are the highlights from each fall 2024 RCS Varsity sport.

Girls Varsity Soccer

Girls Varsity Soccer Team

The RCS Girls Varsity Soccer Team finished this season with a 13-5 overall record, showcasing their skill and determination every step of the way. Earning the Number 3 seed in Class A Sectionals, the team delivered impressive regular season victories, including standout wins over Voorheesville and Chatham. Their success didn’t stop there; a dominant first-round sectional win against Glens Falls further solidified their place as one of the state’s top teams. Ranked at #12 in the state by the NY State Sports Writers Association, the RCS Girls Varsity Soccer Team proved they were a force to be reckoned with, setting a strong foundation for the future.

The team was recognized as an NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete team, meaning at least 75% of the team roster had an average of 90 or above!

Player Highlights:

Katie McFerran, Hayden Wolfe, Mary McHugh, and Maddie Wilcox were selected to the Colonial Council First Team Girls Soccer All-Stars, and Aubrey Meddaugh as a Second Team All Star.

Hayden Wolfe, Katie McFerran, and Madison Wilcox were also selected as Section 2 Class A All-Stars. In addition, Madison Wilcox was selected as the Goalkeeper of the Year for Class A Section 2 Girls Soccer. 

Katie McFerran was recognized this season for scoring her 100th career goal against Lansingburgh!

Katie received recognition of her achievement at the beginning of the team's next home game where she was given the game ball surrounded by her team, coach, and family.

Celebrating Our Seniors:

The team had eight seniors that were recognized at their Senior Night at a home game on Thursday, October 17, Grace Baranska, Kendall Bullock, Patricia Dorrance, Allison Kennedy, Katie McFerran, Mary McHugh, Ashley Rios, and Madison Wilcox - they will be missed!

Boys Varsity Soccer

The team had a highly competitive season, marked by exciting, close games. They continued to push forward and grew stronger together throughout the fall. Demonstrating positivity, grit, and resilience, the team overcame injuries and faced off against veteran squads in the league. They never gave up and played hard through the final minute of each game. A standout moment of the season was their fantastic win against Schoharie in a non-league matchup, and they also tied a thrilling game with Troy High School.

The team was recognized as an NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete team, meaning at least 75% of the team roster had an average of 90 or above!

Celebrating Our Seniors:

The team had six seniors that were recognized at their Senior Night at a home game on Wednesday, October 16, Theodore DuBois, Aidan Gottesman, Anthony Makarski, Clarence Remmie, Austin Smith, & Kamden Williams. We wish you the best!

Girls Varsity Tennis

The girls worked hard to improve their skills and spent a lot of quality time together at practice and matches. Overall, they had fun this season! The future is bright for RCS Girls Tennis, as they had a young team this year without any senior athletes. Some highlights of the season were impressive wins against Greenville, Schalmont, and Voorheesville. Paige Gottesman was also selected for the Honorable Mention Team for Colonial Council League All-Stars.

The team was recognized as an NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete team, meaning at least 75% of the team roster had an average of 90 or above!

Boys Varsity Golf

Varsity Golf Team

The RCS Golf Team made impressive strides this season, with many players just beginning or only a few years into the sport. This year, the team welcomed a middle school student-athlete to the roster, marking an exciting step in the team’s development. Varsity Golf continues to grow and evolve, with each season bringing new improvements to both the team and the program as a whole. We’re excited to build on this progress and look forward to even greater achievements next year.

Player Highlights:

The team was led by Parker Deyoe, with a scoring average of 55.5 per nine holes.

Shout out to senior Aurora Wagnor, who was the only female golfer competing in the Colonial Council this season. Aurora adapted her game by playing off the men's tees at each match and ended the season strong with an impressive 58.5 average!

The team's MVP John Roberston, continued to improve this year, posting a 63.0 average as our number 3 scorer.

The team had three seniors that were recognized at their Senior Night at home at the Sagamore Golf Course. Julio Vargas, Aurora Wagner, and Ryan Morrow - Congratulations!

Varsity Girls Swimming and Diving

Varsity Swim and Dive

The Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Team had a busy and rewarding season, showcasing resilience and growth with just eight athletes. The team welcomed a wave of new swimmers to the sport who embraced the challenge of competitive swimming and steadily worked on their skills in the pool throughout the season.

In addition to their athletic achievements, the team organized fun team-bonding events like a memorable trip to the pumpkin patch, and on October 5th, they proudly took part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Through their collective efforts, the team raised over $100 to support the cause, demonstrating their commitment to both swimming and giving back to their community.

The team was recognized as an NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete team, meaning at least 75% of the team roster had an average of 90 or above!

Colonial Council Championships

The team took 5th place out of 8 teams.

Section 2 Championships

The team took 7th out of 11 teams. During six different events in the championships the team scored a time in the top 8 for all of Section 2!

The team was lead by two seniors who were recognized at their Senior Night during the last home meet of the regular season. Ana Ball and Alyssa Grogan – Congratulations to our Seniors!

RCS Girls Swim and Dive Walk for Alzheimer's

Boys & Girls Varsity Cross Country

The Cross Country Team had another season of rebuilding, with one Varsity Boy and a complete Varsity Girls team of 5 athletes. The team attended three invitationals including the Queensbury Invitational, Grout Invitational, and the Burnt-Hills Invitational. In addition, our Varsity Girls team competed in the Albany County Championship Meet, Colonial Council Championship Meet, and Section 2 Championship Meet. Sophomore Piper Weddell was recognized with Honorable Mention for the Colonial Council All-Stars team. All athletes competed very well, worked hard, and showed tremendous improvement throughout the season.

The Boys Varsity Cross Country team was recognized as a NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete team, meaning at least 75% of the team roster had an average of 90 or above!

Girls Varsity Volleyball

Varsity Volleyball Team

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team worked hard this season and really grew together as a team.

Season Highlights:

  • A Thrilling 3-2 Win Against Hoosic Valley

  • Back-to-Back 3-0 Wins: Victories against Cohoes and BKW.

Tough Competitions and Key Moments: The season also brought moments of challenge and growth:

  • Close Battle with Lansingburgh: In one of their later matches, the team battled hard in a five-set game, showing their stamina and resilience.

  • Senior Night Triumph: On Senior Night, the team faced Ichabod Crane, one of the top teams in the council, and won a set!

  • Overcoming Challenges: In their final game of the season, a sectional qualifying match, the team faced an unexpected setback—a game-changing injury. Despite the challenges, this forced the girls to adapt and be flexible in their roles on the court, and they all stepped up.

Player Shoutout: Senior McKenna Slingerland made First Team Colonial Council All-Stars.

Varsity Cheerleading

Homecoming Half Time

The team really got involved with the crowd, fans, and the student section this year. They participated in the pep rally, performed a halftime show for the homecoming football game, and created banners for the players to run through! The team also continued to Cheer through November at postseason Sectional games to help support the Football team. 

It was a fun and busy season, and Coach Green had this to say, “I really enjoyed working with these girls. They really stepped up from last season, and it showed. The crowd loved them!! Great job, ladies!! I am proud of you all!!!”

Highlight of the Season:

RCS Cheer Alumni

RCS Cheer welcomed home alumni for the first home football game of the season on Friday, September 13. The alumni and varsity cheerleaders united to celebrate and greeted fans, marking the beginning of a new era for RCS athletics with the first cheers for the Ravens!

Varsity Football

RCS Varsity Football

The 2024 RCS Varsity Football team had a terrific season finishing with an 8-3 overall record and an undefeated 5-0 record in the Reinfurt Division leading to a Reinfurt Division Championship. The team opened the season with a tough non-league loss to Class A Columbia. The squad then went on to win their next 8 Class B games. During that span, the Ravens had an average margin of victory of 30 points. Entering the playoffs as the number one seed the Ravens defeated Gloversville in the sectional quarterfinals with a score of 56-21 and then defeated Mechanicville - Hoosic Valley in the sectional semifinals with a score of 21-7. In the Championship game, the Ravens came up just short with a 20-14 loss to Glens Falls.
