RCS Student-Athletes Wrap Up Spring 2025 Sports Season

The spring athletic season never disappoints! With 172 student-athletes participating, they worked hard to represent RCS with integrity and pride! “I could not be more proud of how the season went,” said the Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Health & Wellness, Ms. Murphy. “Watching teams throughout the season showed me how much each team grew with each passing week.”

A big thank you goes to the coaches, parents, caregivers, staff, chaperones, transportation team, and most notably, our student-athletes for an exciting season! Each of you plays an important role in supporting and improving our athletic program, and it is greatly appreciated!

Congratulations to our teams on a job well done!

Boys Varsity Tennis

Boys Varsity Tennis

The Boys Varsity Tennis team wrapped up a strong season, making it to sectionals, showing growth and determination as they navigated challenging weather and schedule. Despite only being able to play 11 of their 13 scheduled matches, the team improved their record to 4-7, up from 4-10 in 2024.

The team worked hard on their skills, stayed focused, and had notable wins against Cobleskill, Schoharie, and Schenectady. The four team wins were all convincing (7-0 or 6-1), and the majority of the losses were close.

This season also brought a shift in scheduling with Troy High School joining the Colonial Council, resulting in an unbalanced league schedule of nine matches. This gave RCS the chance to take on tougher non-league opponents, including Albany High School (Class A) and MeKeel Academy, the 2025 Class C/D sectional champions.

The team showed significant improvement over last season, showcasing just how competitive the team was throughout the season. We have high expectations for next season, with at least two promising prospects coming from Middle School.

Congratulations to the whole team on their season!

Postseason Sectional Highlights:

  • 1 singles sectional match win for Brady Warner

  • Faced #2-seeded Scotia in the team sectional match as the #7 seed, putting up a strong fight against a former Class A opponent.

  • Brady Warner and Jack Merrills battled to third-set tiebreakers, with two other matches also going down to the wire.

An impressive step forward from last year’s sectional showing, where no player won more than a single game.

As a younger team, the girls started the season with optimism, a fresh mindset, and a positive attitude. They worked hard every day in practice to prepare for their competitive Colonial Council and non-league game schedule. The girls made gains together as a group, improved on their individual skills, and learned from their experiences. The team finished with notable wins against Greenville, LaSalle, and Windham-Ashland Jewett.

MacKenzie Cross was selected as a Colonial Council All-Star.

Congratulations to the entire team on a great season!

This spring, the Girls Varsity Softball Team was recognized as a New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Scholar-Athlete Team, meaning throughout the season, the team must have 75% of their roster with an average of 90 or higher.
