A.W. Becker News

December 1, 2025

A.W. Becker Community,

I hope all is well with our AWB family, and you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving break. It is crazy to think that we have already reached December. It'll be a quick but busy month at school. Here are some updates I want to share with all of you.

1.) We have completed our mandatory evacuation drills for the fall and won't have any more scheduled until the spring. We will be conducting one more lockdown drill this month. I will make parents and guardians aware of our next drill via ParentSquare.

2.)  We have Parent Teacher conferences coming up on December 11 & 15. Please make sure you've scheduled a time to meet with your child's teacher if you have not done so already. This is the opportunity to get a better understanding of your child's academic progress, collaborate and build a relationship with the teacher, and ask any clarifying questions relating to your child's success.

3.) Just wanted to share the schedule for the upcoming early dismissal days:

  • Students will eat lunch prior to dismissal.
  • Parent pick-up will begin at 12:20 p.m., and students who take the bus will be dismissed following parent pick-up.
  • Buses depart at 12:30 p.m.
  • Parents/guardians should be prepared for their students to be home 3 hours earlier.

4.) PE Winter Wonderland - This years Family PE Winter Wonderland is scheduled for Monday, December 15th and Wednesday, December 17th. If you are interested in participating in this event, please fill out this Google Form

5.) As we approach these colder months, please review the guidelines below on when to keep your child(ren) home due to any type of sickness. We will continue to have outdoor recess as long as the temperature is above 20 degrees, so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.

When To Keep Your Child Home Due To Illness

It can be hard to know when to send children to school if they tell you that they do not feel well. Usually, the best place for them is in school, but there are some times when keeping them home to rest or calling for an appointment with your doctor or health care provider is recommended.

Please keep your child home and/or contact your doctor or health care provider for

  • Fever greater than 101°.
  • Vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours.
  • Severe sore throat along with fever.
  • Honey-crusted sores around the nose or mouth.
  • New onset of large amounts of mucous (liquid) coming out from the nose.
  • Severe ear pain or fluid coming from the ear.
  • Eyelid redness with pus.

Please keep children home until fever free without fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours. Reminding children to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze, keep their hands away from their faces, and wash their hands often will help keep everyone healthier.

Communication

The primary source for building communication will be sent out via ParentSquare. There is a mobile app for your convenience, and you can customize your notifications. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up! Learn more about ParentSquare here.

AWB Targets and Action Plans (TAPs)

Each school year, RCS develops district and building goals that we strive to meet. This school year, AWB is starting work on four long-term goals that align with our district and BOE initiatives. These goals run through the 2029 school year. These goals serve as our compass, guiding us towards providing the best possible education and support for your children. Together, as a united school community, we are committed to ensuring the academic and social-emotional success of each student within our walls.

1.) Communication - Increase community engagement

2.) Culture and Climate - Cultivate a safe, inclusive learning environment

3.) Academic Outcomes - Provide standard aligned, relevant instruction for all students.
