A.W. Becker News

March 2, 2026

A.W. Becker Community,

I hope all is well with our AWB family, here are a few updates as we begin March:

1.) I first want to thank the PTA, the AWB community, and the staff for the success of the Boosterthon. It was a great event and we went into winter break on a very positive note. This success will help provide some meaningful opportunities for both our students and staff. We are very grateful for the support you give to our school.

2.) AWB will be celebrating reading throughout March with two school-wide events! In school, students will read and vote for their favorite Outdoor Adventure books in our annual Tournament of Books. At home, students are invited to read and collect donations to support Read for Ronald McDonald House. Find out more about both events here!

3.) Budget season is upon us! Careful planning and thoughtful decision-making are essential to ensure we remain financially responsible while maintaining the strong educational program our students deserve. We are closely reviewing expenditures, prioritizing student-centered initiatives, and maximizing the resources available to us. Our focus remains clear: protecting classroom instruction, supporting student needs, and sustaining a positive, engaging learning environment. I urge the AWB community to keep themselves afloat on the initiatives being presented and discussed on our Special Board of Education meetings.

Health Office News

It can be hard to know when to send children to school if they tell you that they do not feel well. Usually, the best place for them is in school, but there are some times when keeping them home to rest or calling for an appointment with your doctor or health care provider is recommended.

Please keep your child home and/or contact your doctor or health care provider for

  • Fever greater than 101°.
  • Vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours.
  • Severe sore throat along with fever.
  • Honey-crusted sores around the nose or mouth.
  • New onset of large amounts of mucous (liquid) coming out from the nose.
  • Severe ear pain or fluid coming from the ear.
  • Eyelid redness with pus.

Please keep children home until fever free without fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours. Reminding children to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze, keep their hands away from their faces, and wash their hands often will help keep everyone healthier.

AWB Targets and Action Plans (TAPs)

Each school year, RCS develops district and building goals that we strive to meet. This school year, AWB is starting work on four long-term goals that align with our district and BOE initiatives. These goals run through the 2029 school year. These goals serve as our compass, guiding us towards providing the best possible education and support for your children. Together, as a united school community, we are committed to ensuring the academic and social-emotional success of each student within our walls.

1.) Communication - Increase community engagement

2.) Culture and Climate - Cultivate a safe, inclusive learning environment

3.) Academic Outcomes - Provide standard aligned, relevant instruction for all students.
