A.W. Becker Community,
I hope all is well with our AWB family and you all had an enjoyable winter break. Here are a few updates as we begin January:
1.) I want to wish you all a Happy New Year. We are excited for what 2026 has in store for our AWB community.
2.) We will continue to have outdoor recess as long as the temperature is above 20 degrees, so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.
3.) With the mounting sickness around the Capital Region, I just want to share some suggested guidelines from our school nurse on when to keep your child(ren) home due to any type of sickness. (see chart below)

When To Keep Your Child Home Due To Illness |
It can be hard to know when to send children to school if they tell you that they do not feel well. Usually, the best place for them is in school, but there are some times when keeping them home to rest or calling for an appointment with your doctor or health care provider is recommended. |
Please keep your child home and/or contact your doctor or health care provider for |
- Fever greater than 101°.
- Vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours.
- Severe sore throat along with fever.
- Honey-crusted sores around the nose or mouth.
- New onset of large amounts of mucous (liquid) coming out from the nose.
- Severe ear pain or fluid coming from the ear.
- Eyelid redness with pus.
|
Please keep children home until fever free without fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours. Reminding children to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze, keep their hands away from their faces, and wash their hands often will help keep everyone healthier. |

December was very busy around school, but we had a lot of positives as we closed out the year. The PTA organized Cookies with Santa, morning trivia, and the Holiday Shop for our students. We also had Winter Wonderland in our gym, Spirit Week organized by the PBIS Committee, and a festive school sing-along to end our week. AWB is a special place because of the people who provide these memorable opportunities. Thank you all! |

AWB Targets and Action Plans (TAPs)
|
Each school year, RCS develops district and building goals that we strive to meet. This school year, AWB is starting work on four long-term goals that align with our district and BOE initiatives. These goals run through the 2029 school year. These goals serve as our compass, guiding us towards providing the best possible education and support for your children. Together, as a united school community, we are committed to ensuring the academic and social-emotional success of each student within our walls.
1.) Communication - Increase community engagement
2.) Culture and Climate - Cultivate a safe, inclusive learning environment
3.) Academic Outcomes - Provide standard aligned, relevant instruction for all students.
