Celebrating RCS High School Student Artists From The 2024–2025 School Year

Artist of the Month is a special recognition program at RCS High School that celebrates outstanding art students each month throughout the school year. Selected students consistently demonstrate dedication to their work, active participation in class, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude.

We’re proud to highlight the talented Artists of the Month for the 2024–2025 school year!

September 2024

Artist of the Month: Cecilia Kunuria

Cecilia
Cecilia

Cecilia is a 10th-grade student and has shown great enthusiasm and pride in her artwork. She is always working on something, whether that be her assignment or another creative adventure in filling her sketchbook. When she has a vision, she puts her mind to it and follows through with great detail. We look forward to having Cecilia continue her passion in more art classes next year.

Artist of the Month: Owen Smith

Owen
Owen

Owen is an 11th-grade student and comes to class each day ready to participate. He does a wonderful job critiquing photographs and sharing his opinion. Owen’s photographs are very calm. He utilizes balance, shapes, and lines to compose images that are welcoming to the viewer. Owen is also one of the newest members of the National Art Honor Society.

Artist of the Month: Xin Yi Lin

 Xin Yi

Xin Yi is a 9th-grade student who dedicates time and thought to her artwork. She is creative and meticulous. Xin Yi has excelled in a variety of media, including printmaking, ceramics, drawing, and painting. Xin Yi will often be working on independent projects as well as her assignments for class. She participates in both the Ceramics Club and the Art Club!

Artist of the Month: Lauren Gimondo

Lauren
Lauren

Lauren is very dedicated to her craft and always puts a lot of thought into her compositions. Her photographs demonstrate good use of color and balance, a skill that she also carries over into her drawings. Lauren is an active member of the National Art Honor Society. The High School Art Department is very impressed with her commitment and kindness.

Artist of the Month: Paige Gottesman

Paige

Paige is a 10th-grade student and has explored many art-making methods while taking Studio in Art, Ceramics, and Drawing. She takes the challenge of each new material and creates wonderful expressions of her fun personality. The artwork that Paige creates is full of color and joy. Paige is a new member of the National Art Honor Society.

Artist of the Month: Kadanc Pickup

Kandance

Kadance, a 12th-grade student and President of the National Art Honor Society, has had an outstanding year, culminating in the completion of her AP Drawing portfolio, her second AP art course! A driven and self-motivated artist, Kadance consistently pushes herself to grow and refine her craft.

In addition to her academic achievements, Kadance made significant contributions to her school community. She designed the Mean Girls logo for this year’s High School Drama Club production and played a key role in creating the logo for the 2025 Youth Art Month (YAM) Summit. Her talents were also recognized in two prestigious art competitions: the Columbia-Greene High School Art Competition and the Congressional Art Competition, hosted by Congressman Paul Tonko.

The RCS High School Art Department will truly miss Kadance next year, but we are confident that she will continue to create exceptional artwork and inspire others with her creativity and dedication.

Artist of the Month: Piper Weddell

Piper

Piper is a 10th-grade student who is an active member of the National Art Honor Society and did a fantastic job helping at this year's YAM Summit. Piper is very detail-oriented when it comes to her artwork. She takes her time when planning her compositions, making sure each piece is successful. Piper’s selection for this year’s High School Regional Juried Art Exhibition is a testament to her talent and dedication. The RCS High School Art Department couldn’t be prouder.

Artist of the Month: Katelyn Finn

 Katelyn
 Katelyn

Katelyn is a 12th-grade student currently enrolled in Ceramics and Painting. She consistently uses her class time productively and approaches each project with focus and enthusiasm. Always eager to take on new challenges, Katelyn is willing to experiment with unfamiliar materials and techniques. Her artwork is characterized by playful themes and imaginative imagery that carry across all mediums she explores.

Artist of the Month: Madison Hunter

Madison
Madison

Madison is a senior enrolled in AP 2D Art and Design and a member of the National Art Honor Society. Her work this year focused on portraiture, exploring how emotions can be conveyed through photography by incorporating text and projected imagery onto her subjects.

She has had an outstanding year developing her Sustained Investigation for her AP Portfolio, demonstrating both creativity and technical skill. The RCS High School Art Department is incredibly impressed with her final pieces and proud of her dedication and artistic growth.
